PH bans entry of poultry products from Karnataka, India
The Department of Agriculture (DA) placed a temporary ban on the importation of domestic and wild birds and their products including poultry meat, day old chicks, eggs and semen originating from Karnataka, India.
Based on the official report submitted by Devendra Chaundhry, Secretary, Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, New Delhi, India to the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE), there was an outbreak of H5N8 Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza virus in Dasarahili, Bengaluru Urban, Karnataka, India affecting birds.
This was also confirmed by the National Institute of High Security Anmial Disease, Bhopal.
“There is a need to prevent the entry of HPAI virus to protect the health of the local poultry population,” the DA said.
