Aboitiz partners with DA to set up backyard farms nationwide
Aboitiz Group, through Aboitiz Equity Ventures, Inc. (AEV) and the Aboitiz Foundation, has partnered with the Department of Agriculture (DA) to carry out the Urban Agriculture Garden project, which aims to help households set up backyard farms.
According to Aboitiz, this initiative under the “PAGKAIN Para sa Masa” program aims to set up small backyard farms in urban areas and complement them with garden tools, seedlings, and mushroom culture kits.
These urban farms will provide nutritious food for every Filipino and possible livelihood sources for communities.
Apart from the actual backyard farm, the project includes seminars on gardening, soil analysis, compost-making, and fish and mushroom culture that will help transform residents into urban farmers.
“DA is exerting efforts to lessen hunger in the urban community. Through this project, we are able to help the residents have food for their household consumption and potentially earn. We thank the Aboitiz Group for partnering with us for this project,” DA Undersecretary for Special Concerns Ranibai Dilangalen said.
As of now, four urban agriculture gardens have already been set up in Barangay Bahay Toro and at the DA-ATI grounds in Quezon, Davao, and Cotabato Cities.
