BFAR declares several coastal waters free from red tide
Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) has declared some several coastal waters free from red tide, which means shellfish products caught in these area are finally safe from human consumpton.
Based on the latest laboratory results of the BFAR and Local Government Units (LGUs), Honda Bay, Puerto Princesa City in Palawan and coastal waters of Milagros in Masbate are now free of the toxic red tides.
However, shellfishes collected at Irong-Irong Bay in Western Samar; coastal waters of Leyte and Carigara Bay in Leyte; and Lianga Bay in Surigao del Sur are still positive for paralytic shellfish poison that is beyond the regulatory limit.
Coastal waters of Biliran Province are likewise positive for red tide.
