Farmer’s son tops PMA class with multiple awards
A farmer’s son, Cadet 1st Class Jaywardene Galilea, will be the third cadet to graduate as both class baron (brigade commander) and valedictorian since the Phiippine Military Academy’s establishment since 1936.
Tomorrow, Hontoria will receive the Philippine Navy Saber, the Armed Forces Chief of Staff Saber, the academic group award, the Australian defense best overall performance award, the Spanish Armed Forces award, the humanities plaque, the natural sciences plaque, the Joint US Military Assistance Group award and the department of leadership plaque.
All this, to be capped by receiving his military commission and presidential saber from no less than President Rodrigo Duterte himself.
A consistent top student since his high school days, Hontoria is the son of Oscar, a farmer, and Nancy, who is a homemaker.
“My tears of joy are overflowing that I may need to put them in my pocket,” Oscar was quoted in an interview with the Inquirer.
