Food items, most added words to Merriam-Webster
Merriam-Webster.com added this month some 850 words into its list of words, most if which are food-related ones.
Of this new 850, about 13 were used for culinary terms such as cooking concepts terms aquafaba, fond and wine descriptor unoaked.
Other words that were added were poke, kombucha, tzatziki, queso, chili con queso, za’atar, harissa, cotija, kabocha, natto and the ice tea and lemonade beverage, Arnold Palmer.
In order to be part of the into Merriam-Webster dictionary, a word must be used frequently, meaningfully, and in a widespread area.
This puts the addition the biggest category in terms of adding food-related words.
