ULAM documentary shows journey of Pinoy cuisine to the American table
Filipinos are known for their passion for food. Even for Pinoy chefs who are separated by miles from their homeland, it is an inherent part of their culture that they wish to share with the world.
The documentary ULAM (main dish), directed by Alexandra Cuerdo features the unique journey of Filipino chefs in opening fusion Pinoy restaurants in New York.
The film features the early challenges faced by these Fil-Am restaurateurs on how they found the market and the capital to start their businesses.
They also talked about the challenges of how to properly represent Filipino food from 7,100 islands and how they used the inspiration from their own experiences to share their culture with American diners.
