Walmart introduces prepared meals to level up grocery game
To improve its grocery business, America’s biggest grocery chain Walmart Inc. said it will start selling prepared meals at its stores.
As a start, Walmart will be offering 10 different meals across its 250 branches. This will later on expand to 2,000 locations by the end of this year.
A Bloomberg report showed that the company will also introduce four $15 meal-kit options in its stores.
Tyler Lehr, a Walmart senior vice president, said in the report that more than 80 percent of Americans don’t know what they will have for dinner every night, scrambling to find a meal which in turn puts pressure on a family.
The prepared meals, according to him, will also solve this problem.
The report also said that moving forward, Walmart’s move might cause pressures on the sales of restaurant chains nationwide.
