Erwan attempts to recreate Chicken Joy on his food vlog
We may have been enjoying Erwan Heussaff’s food adventures on his vlog, but his recent entry is a fitting reminder that he is an exceptional chef as well.
And because his fans have been bugging him for ages to attempt to recreate the famous chicken joy, the celebrity chef had no choice but to cater to their request. Aside from the few bumps at the beginning, Erwan still did a pretty good job based on the comments of his followers.
Here’s how you make your version of the Chicken Joy ala Erwan:
Ingredients (for 8 pcs of chicken)
1 cup cornstarch
1 cup flour
1 tsp salt
2 tbsp garlic powder
1 tbsp onion powder
2 tbsp five spice
Mix all and use as coating.
Deep fry in 50/50 canola and coconut oil
For the gravy, mix:
1 organic stock cube
3 cups of water
2 tbsp of flour mixture
1/3 cup milk
Check out how he tried to duplicate the LanghapSarap flavor on his video
And here are what his fans have to say:
Bellax said: “Erwan just transform (sic) Jollibee chicken joy to gourmet chicken joy and I am living for it. “ #petitioningtocloningErwan
“I feel so hungry looking at this video!!!! and it’s like 6AM!,” Russ said.
“Man I am craving chicken joy and chicken Inasal like crazy lately, this made it worse lol,” Nomadic Philippine Vlogs said.
Some shared their own techniques on how to make Chicken Joy crispy “Chickenjoy are (sic) already marinated when it is delivered to every jollibee branch. then it just has to be thawed and dip in water for 1-2 seconds and then into the breading. jollibee uses a pressure fryer, and that what makes it really crispy on the outside and tender and juicy on the inside,” Pamela shared.
Vince, on the other hand, thinks deep frying it twice is the real secret to the crispiness.
Well, only Jollibee has the secret to creating the perfect Chicken Joy but Erwan still came close. (ANGEL ONG)
