Laguna Water to provide portable toilets to poor communities
Aside from the treatment of used water, Laguna Water, a subsidiary of Ayala-led Manila Water Company Inc., is also exploring the possibility of providing portable toilets and communal toilets to toilet-less communities.
This, as Manila Water’s Portable Toilet Solution (PTS) project has received a P30-million grant from the Grand Challenges Canada and has been recognized as a runner-up in a World Bank-sponsored Ideas for Action competition.
The project, which can also be implemented by the company’s subsidiary, aims to resolve the insufficient access to proper sanitation and to end open defecation.
“Laguna Water champions sanitation. Everyone has a right to have access to proper sanitation but it is also everyone’s responsibility to make it sustainable and available to all,” said Laguna Water General Manager and COO Shoebe Hazel Caong.
Just recently, Laguna Water officially launched its Tamang Sanitasyon Equals Kalusugan, Kalinisan, at Kaunlaran ng Bayan (TSEK ng Bayan) services, which include sewage management and desludging or septic tank cleaning.
