Manila Water, Maynilad disagree on raw water allocation
Maynilad Water Services Inc. said that despite talks with the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) and Manila Water last Friday on appropriate raw water allocations, the amount of raw water that entered Maynilad’s La Mesa Treatment Plants is still less than what it is entitled to receive.
“Until Maynilad is given its appropriate raw water allocation, it will not be able to bring water supply for its customers to normal levels. Maynilad has been receiving less than its 60 percent share since April 1, causing its stored water to plunge,” Maynilad said.
Maynilad said it is currently reviewing existing protocols on the raw water sharing with Manila Water so it can propose changes that will prevent this same situation from recurring.
Meanwhile, it is appealing to the MWSS to have Manila Water restore Maynilad’s 60 percent share so it can refill the Bagbag Reservoir and stabilize water service for its customers.
“We will announce different schedules of service interruptions on a daily basis until this issue is settled with Manila Water,” it further said.
