Meet plastic bag that’s not ‘plastic’ at all
There’s a new packaging material that looks and feels like plastic but is actually made from a biodegradable source.
According to a video post by attn.:, the bags are made out of Yuca, a root vegetable that, despite having similar features to plastic bags, are actually biodegradable and dissolve on their own after some time.
This means that they will not be posing similar waste problems to plastic when they are left out in the sea. Because they come from an organic source, they also won’t pose a danger to animals and insects even if they consume them which is a major problem being experienced by marine life.
The bags are currently being made in Indonesia as a response to the country’s plastic waste problem. Hopefully, many other countries will follow this model and make their own version of biodegradable “plastic.” (ANGEL ONG)
