Austrian vloggers give shoutout to ‘family oriented’ Pinoy food
Austrian vloggers Mike and Nelly are back in Manila and this time around, they did not miss the chance to try out some of the Filipino dishes that their fans have suggested for them on their channel.
The couple are behind the Make it Happen travel and lifestyle vlog, which was awarded among the 100 Top Travel Vlogs in 2017.
For their recent visit, the couple went to Makati to try out adobo, bicol express, sinigang and sisig.
They first stopped over at Manam, whose specialty is whipping up delicious classic dishes with a twist and were immediately impressed with the ube shake based on ube ice cream and sago. Nelly described it as a milkshake of happiness. Mike said that the ube shake felt like there was a party in his mouth because of the flavors and textures that the shake had.
The Bicol Express was served lumpia style and the classic palabok had a makeover as it was presented in crispy version. Instead of the classic sinigang, the couple went for sinigang with watermelon which is sour soup infused with watermelon. Its actually one of Manam’s signature dishes along with their bestseller, the sisig.
“I was expecting all of the dishes to be rich but half of the dishes were savory and sweet and high in acidity which is really a nice combination. The way that the food is prepared and the attention to detail.
I think this is an amazing place to come with a bunch of friends, share a few dishes on the table and that’s also something you need to know about Filipino food is that it’s a very family oriented thing. A lot of these dishes are just to share it together and enjoy,” Mike said at the end of the vlog.
