BFAR issues latest red tide warning

For public safety, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) has issued another advisory on the list of coastal areas that remained positive for red tide.

Based on the latest laboratory results of the BFAR and Local Government Units (LGUs), shellfishes collected at coastal waters of Biliran Province; coastal waters of Leyte in Leyte; Lianga Bay in Surigao del Sur; coastal waters of Dauis and Tagbilaran City in Bohol; and Honda Bay, Puerto Princesa in Palawan are still positive for paralytic shellfish poison that is beyond the regulatory limit.

“All types of shellfish and Acetes sp. or alamang gathered from the area shown above are NOT SAFE for human consumption,” BFAR said.

Meanwhile, fish, squids, shrimps and crabs are safe for human consumption provided that they are fresh and washed thoroughly, and internal organs such as gills and intestines are removed before cooking.
