Bristol’s answer to the plastic problem? Pasta straws
A bar in Bristol may have found a sustainable alternative to plastic straws as they introduced pasta straws to their customers.
In a BBC feature, the bar’s owner said they wanted to find a solution to the plastic waste generated by using straws and they tried to use paper straws which deteriorated quickly. Metal straws, on the other hand, were sustainable but not cost effective.
“We sort of put a stop on all and looked at doing biodegadeable straws but there was no lifespan on that so then we stumbled across pasta straws, “ he said, adding that customers had no complaints because they did not affect the flavor of the drink and they also have an interesting reaction to cola.
With this new solution, the bar said that it hopes to make a dent in the 8 billion straws a year that is generated in the UK alone.
“Say no to plastic, say yes to pasta,” he said. (ANGEL ONG)
