Cesar Montano told to explain questionable P80M ‘Buhay Carinderia’ project
Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) head Cesar Montano was told by new Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat to explain the questionable P80-million ‘Buhay Carinderia’ project, a food tourism program that features local street food and eateries.
A report in Philippine Star showed that Puyat wants Montano to explain his recent trip to New York and why he already paid the organizers of Buhay Carinderia project in full even if it hasn’t been completed yet.
“I want to know what is the budget and what he plans to do. I have to ask whoever the organizer is, did it go through proper bidding?” Puyat said in a television interview.
Under standard practice, the government must pay in tranches when tapping a third party for its projects and that the last disbursement must be made only after the project has been completed.
