Chicken Beauty Pageants are the latest trends in Indonesia
Most people see chickens as a tasty meal of fried chicken, roasted chicken, chicken a la king, among other tasty dishes based on the poultry.
However, there is a new trend in Indonesia that casts these plucky poultry in a new light.
A Discovery Southeast Asia video shared that chickens are now being featured in beauty pageants where chickens are paraded around for the entertainment of their fans. Its like a cockfight where bets are placed on the final winner but there is no blood involved as the beautiful birds are only required to strut the stage.
The chickens used for the pageant are a breed called the Ayam Serama, considered as the smallest chicken in the world and prized for their posture and majestic stance.
The process isn’t entirely painless because chicken owners would make slight modifications to their combs, their wings, ribs and thighs to improve their appearance, much like plastic surgery is to humans.
Its also an entertaining view to see the owners motivate their chickens to performing better on stage.
Well, its an interesting concept that saves chickens’ lives so we’re all for it.
