Foodpanda to launch ‘no cutlery’ option as part of green initiatives
Food delivery platform foodpanda is doing its share in protecting the environment as it will now allow customers to decline receiving free plastic cutlery.
This June, customers of the food delivery service can opt in or out of the option of getting disposable cutlery which restaurants provide for delivery or takeout orders.
The logic behind the initiative is that customers surely have ready utensils to use whether they order from home or from office.
“[W]e estimate that this option can help reduce foodpanda’s usage of plastic utensils by 30 percent in 2018,” Iacopo Rovere, CEO of foodpanda Philippines, was quoted in a report by The Manila Standard.
About 50 of foodpanda’s participating restaurant partners such as S&R New York Style Pizza, Yabu and Tim Ho Wan across its Metro Manila, Metro Cebu and Davao will be adopting the option.
The food delivery service provider is also looking at replacing plastic bags with brown paper bags and eyeing to boost cyclists and walkers to do the delivery so as to keep from contributing in the carbon emissions of the transport sector.
