Jollibee, Wendy’s fall victim to possible data breach
If you’re considering to have your food delivered to your home tonight, you might want to think twice as the online delivery services of two of the country’s most popular fast-food chains just fell victim to possible data breach.
These chains are Jollibee Foods Corp. and Wendy’s Philippines, which both had to shutdown their online delivery services today.
This, as their websites containing personal information of those who earlier ordered from their website might have been breached by some unidentified cyber criminals.
To be specific, the National Privacy Commission’s (NPC) Legal and Enforcement Office has just sent to Jollibee Foods Corporation this afternoon an official Order, which obliges the food company to implement preventive security measures on its website, to address serious vulnerabilities.
As part of the measure, NPC told Jollibee to temporarily stop its online delivery services. It also did the same thing for Wendy’s.
When asked about the issue, an NPC official said what happened to Jollibee and Wendy’s are two different cases being investigated separately, and that it’s too early to assume that it’s a large scale cyber attack that targets the online delivery services of restaurants nationwide.
