New Tourism chief to boost food tourism in PH
New Tourism Chief Bernadette Romulo-Puyat said that under her reign, the Department of Tourism (DOT) will actively pursue efforts to promote the country’s vast culinary culture.
In a TV interview, Puyat said that aside from beaches, Philippines also started to become known when it comes to its signature dishes, a development that the DOT can take advantage of.
“Palaging pinag-uusapan ng tao ang ating pagkain… All over the world, like in the United States, nagbubukasan ang mga Filipino food at nagugustuhan na nila. Alam mo naman ang isang bansa pinupuntahan na ng isang bansa kung masarap yung pagkain,” Puyat said.
Moving forward, Puyat said DOT will come up with programs that will specifically promote the culinary tourism in the Phiippines, like what Singapore did.
This, as she retains the government’s “it’s more fun in the Philippines” tourism campaign.
