NPA burns NIA’s heavy equipment in Negros Occidental worth P6.85M
The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) said that Mount Cansermon Command (MCC) of the New People’s Army (NPA) admitted to have burned the agency’s P6.85 million worth of heavy equipment and bunkhouse in Negros Occidental.
NIA said the burned items are to be used in the construction of NIA’s irrigation projects at Barangay Tan-awan in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental.
NIA, as the lead government agency mandated to develop all possible sources of water for irrigation, constructs, restores, and rehabilitates irrigation projects for the benefit of Filipino farmers.
Condemning what happened, NIA is now working with Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) to handle the incident.
“The arson incident of the heavy equipments and other tools needed in the irrigation construction would result to the delayed or unaccomplished projects,” NIA said.
“The Agency’s irrigation projects are intended to benefit the farmers by increasing their farm yield, family income, and economic output. Thus, the incident deprives them a chance to progress and uplift their quality of life,” it added.
