PH ties up with Korea to improve mechanization in farm sector
Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (PHilMech) has tied up with FIT Corea Trading Philippines, Inc.– Korea Agricultural Machinery Industry Cooperative (KAMICO) to set up a roashow meant to showcase modern farm technologies in the country.
Roderic Vereña of PHilMech said the roadshow is a collaborative endeavor between South Korea and the Philippines for agricultural development through the promotion of mechanization and postharvest technologies.
“Our goal is to create awareness and to stimulate the interest of the farmers in agricultural mechanization towards agricultural productivity,” Vereña said.
During the roadshow recently held at Southern Tagalog Integrated Agricultural Research Center (STIARC), Department of Agriculture (DA) Regional Executive Director Arnel De Mesa emphasized that farm mechanization is the solution to one of the major problems of the farmers.
“If we will be able to lessen the labor component then we will be able to increase the income of the farmers and one way to lower the labor component is through the use of modern technology and agricultural equipment,” De Mesa said.
For his part, Kim Kyung Soo, director of Korea Agricultural Machinery Industry Cooperative (KAMICO), said they seek for more ways on how to extend help expand farm mechanization in the Philippines.
