Top Chef Judge ventures into food hall
Top Chef Producer and judge Tom Colicchio has signed up for developing a ‘lifestyle entertainment destination’ in Kansas City.
Colicchio will be teaming up with GFI Development Co., New York, along with Mission Gateway developer Cameron Group LLC, on the construction of 40,000-square-foot food hall which will be built in an old mall lot near Johnson Drive, according to KansasCity.com.
The food hall will “bring together nationally acclaimed chefs and restaurateurs, coupled with local artisanal purveyors. And it will feature a live concert venue and rotating art installation,” says a release from the developers.
Envisioning food halls as the ‘future of dining’, Colicchio said they will engage the local community by combining stand-alone restaurants and smaller counters curated by national and local chefs, to encourage social interaction.
The Top Chef Judge also said that this lifestyle entertainment destination anchored in chef-driven, culinary experiences will focus on exceptional but accessible food.
In a recent interview with Restaurant Hospitality, Colicchio shared his excitement with the new venture.
“Food halls are extremely popular right now, I think it is the future of dining. I thought it was about time we dipped our feet in that pool,” Colicchio said.
The estimated time frame for the food hall’s opening is in two years.
