Vegetarian Fish will soon be available in Southeast Asian Market
First ever vegan seafoods created in New York is about to be introduced to Southeast Asia and European market.
Ocean Hugger Foods created the world’s first plant based tuna (Ahimi) last year. It has since gained attention especially from vegetarians as it allows them to get a taste of raw tuna sushi.
Ahimi is made from tomatoes, non-GMO soy sauce, filtered water, sugar and sesame oil. The company is developing another product, an eggplant-based alterative will be used to re-create eel, which will be launched later this year.
Ocean Hugger Foods are aiming for 200 million yen ($ 1.82 million) sales on its first fiscal year. Following their previous partnership with Malaysia’s supermarket chain AEON to sell their Konnyaku Yam Vegan Fish.
Supermarkets from Asia have already expressed interest to sell Ahimi and Unami.
They are now in discussion to build a factory in Thailand and Turkey to facilitate transportation to sales point in the region.
