Watermelon demand in Pakistan surges as temperature goes up
The cost of watermelon in Pakistan dropped as the demand for the refreshing fruit goes up in the scorching heat of 42 degrees Celsius.
According to a report from Urdu Point, the unprecedented demand for watermelon has gone so high that a truck load of watermelons is available in the market from Rs 200,000 to Rs 250,000, only takes about a week to get sold.
The watermelon’s price dropped from Rs 25 to Rs 30 per kg to 15-20 in the markets. Local fruit sellers said that the demand will remain high until the end of the month, until Monsoon sets in, which diminishes the watermelons’ original taste.
The low price and abundance in watermelon supply with the current climate as it aides in dehydration.
“More people could be saved from sunstroke if they take the water-rich fruit like watermelon, which helps in maintaining required water level in the body, besides several other benefits” said Dr Qasim Raza, a general physician.
