Whiskey bottle breaks record as the most expensive liquor
Whiskey has officially been the world’s most expensive liquor at $1 million per bottle.
According to High Snob Society, the lavish whiskey bottles were rare 60-year-old Scottish Macallan whiskey, 750-milliliter vintage bottles distilled in 1926 and matured in a sherry hogshead cask until they were bottled in 1986. Only twelve bottles were ever produced.
The bottles were sold off at a Bonham’s auction an auction for fine and rare wines and whiskies held in Hong Kong. The privately owned auction house expected the whiskies to be sold for around $460,000 to $570,000 apiece. The bottles exceeded the expected price by over a hundred percent. They were sold at a combined price of $2.11 million, said a report from the South China Morning Post.
The label for one of the bottles was designed by Blake, who is popularly known for co-creating the cover art for the album Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band by The Beatles. The other bottle’s label was designed by Adami. The identities of the winning big were not disclosed.
