Beer company develops edible beer rings to save sea creatures
For years, the volume of non-biodegradable waste endangering the lives of marine life has become a more pressing problem throughout the world. As a matter of fact, a beached whale was recently found to have swallowed 17 pounds of plastic trash which he mistook for food, causing its death.
Marine biologists and other researchers have also found animals such as turtles developing deformities because they got caught on plastic ring packs. For this, some innovative inventors have at least found a solution.
Saltwater Brewery recently developed edible six pack rings that are made from barley and wheat which are sturdy enough to hold six cans of beer and are not dangerous for animals if the packs enter the sea. They actually provide tasty snacks for sea life. They are completely biodegradable too, so they don’t add to the harmful waste generated throughout the world on a daily basis.
The company hopes to send out millions of units by next year to mitigate the danger to marine life that the current crop of six pack rings pose.
We hope more companies will follow their example. (ANGEL ONG)
