Cut food waste in your kitchen by doing this
Every year, people waste 1.3 billion tons of food worldwide. This, while there is a lot of people who are struggling to get something to eat.
Food waste include that expired dish or forgotten fruit that stayed too long in your refrigerator. And it’s either you shopped for too much that you already forgot about the expiration dates, or prepared too much food during the dinner.
To resolve this issue in your household, the Epoch Times wrote simple steps to cut the food waste.
1.) First is to shop with grocery list and make sure to plan your meals. By doing this, it will help you not overfill your grocery carts with food that you will not consume in the next few days.
“Going to the market with a shopping list is one of the most important ways to ensure you buy only what you want and only the amount you need,” the report said.
“Set aside a few minutes each week to plan your meals and create a grocery list. This list will make shopping easier, reduce food waste, and set you up for meal prep success throughout the week,” it added.
2.) Next is you must pick fruits or vegetables that are in season. This, as buying fresh fruits and vegetables when they’re in season in your local area is the best way to ensure that your food has traveled fewer miles to reach your plate and will stay fresh longer in your kitchen.
3.) Last tip is if you can buy staple items in bulk, then do it.
“Buying oats, rice, lentils, beans, and dried fruits in bulk is an excellent way to be more sustainable,” the report said.
“These staple foods last a long time, especially if you keep them in an airtight package. They also tend to cost less than their individually packaged counterparts. So why not reduce your packages and avoid the extra waste?” it added.
