Gov’t gears for monitoring of SRPs on basic food commodities
Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Piñol said the government is now gearing for the monitoring of Suggested Retail Price (SRP) that will be imposed on basic food commodities.
“We are ready to monitor. The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) will help us. They just have to know the price guidelines,” Piñol said.
According to him, he will meet with stakeholders on Friday to finalize the price points to be set for food commodities such as rice, vegetables, and fish.
“We will be finalizing the matrix of prices on Friday,” Piñol said.
Piñol said the SRPs to be imposed on the aforementioned commodities will be different per region and that it will be reviewed every 15 days for adjustments.
The government is hoping that through the imposition of SRPs on food products, consumers will be protected from overpricing in the market.
