Int’l company acquires Cebu’s famous Lechon house
After encountering some rough patches, Rico’s Lechon of Cebu will be introduced nationwide following its acquisition by the international franchise MEAT Concepts Corp.
The Rico’s Lechon brand has been around for 20 years, a popular must-try for visitors to Cebu.
They’ve gone through some difficulties after the Cebu City Government ordered its branches to be closed for failing to secure business permits. The Cebu city branches remained closed since August.
But despite the problems Rico’s have encountered, they proven their worth in several occasions.
Rico’s Lechon has been recognized as the “Best Cebu Lechon” by international award-giving bodies and is the only local food concept to have won the Asia-Pacific Stevie International Business Award held in Tokyo, Japan last 2017; and recently earned a certificate of excellence from Tripadvisor for consistently receiving great reviews on the travel site.
According to SunStar Cebu, the international expansion is meant to complement Meat Concepts’ roster of restaurant brands in the Philippines.
“We are excited with the acquisition as it is our first Filipino brand. In a sense it complements our international brand offerings,” said Meat Concepts Corp. president George Pua.
Meat Concepts aims to introduce the Cebu’s famous Lechon house nationwide. “I’ve been a patron of Rico’s Lechon for years and personally believe it’s the best. We want to be able to have Cebuanos take pride in sharing this with the rest of the country, and eventually the world,” Pua added.
