Result of PCC review on rice out soon
The results of the review on rice sector that is being conducted by the Philippine Competitive Commission (PCC) will be out soon.
Such results will help PCC find out if there is a need for it to undertake necessary measures on a possible anti-competitive practices in the rice sector.
PCC commissioner Stella Quimbo said in a Philippine Star report that a market study for the rice industry has been completed recently, but the agency saw the necessity to conduct a second phase.
“Phase 1 used more aggregate data which is like national level data and a little bit of regional data. We said we really need a Phase 2 because of very broad strokes and conclusion for Phase one due to data limitation,“ Quimbo said in the report.
“Ultimately, you just want competition concerns to be identified, that’s the ultimate purpose of the market study,” she added.
Aside from rice, other sectors that are being reviewed by the PCC right now include poultry, meat, pharmaceuticals, agriculture credit, among others.
