San Miguel to up food processing plant to manufacture Spam
While San Miguel Corporation (SMC), one of the oldest conglomerates in the Philippines, plans to expand further its beer bottling capacity, it is also gearing up for the development of a food processing plant specifically to manufacture Spam.
SMC President Ramon S. Ang said in a Manila Bulletin report that all of this form part of the firm’s plan to spend P742 billion in capital expenditures from 2017 to 2019.
Ang said that SMC now wants to use its license to manufacture the popular Spam luncheon meat for both the domestic and regional markets.
“Hormel is our partner and we’ve had the license to manufacture Spam for 20 years already. However, we have not been able to focus on it until now,” And said in the report.
The food processing facility, according to Ang, will be able to produce 500 tons of Spam per day or 160,000 tons per year.
