Agriculture sector hurt by P462.89M due to Henry, Inday
The Department of Agriculture (DA) said that as of yesterday, the total damages and losses brought by tropical storm Henry and severe tropical storm Inday to the agriculture and fisheries sector have already reached P462.89 million, affecting a total 12,235 farmers and fisherfolks.
For rice a total of 25,680 hectares with an estimated production loss of 308 metric tons (MT) amounting to P326.73 million. Around 80 percent of the total affected rice areas are at vegetative stage.
Pangasinan is the most affected province with an area of 13,973 ha. amounting to P204.78 million.
For fisheries, production loss (fish stocks in ponds) and damages to facilities/fishing gears/paraphernalia amounted to P135.2 and P0.95 million, respectively.
Most affected provinces are Pampanga and Bulacan.
Regions/provinces affected, for rice: Reg1 (Pangasinan), Reg3 (Bataan, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga and Tarlac), CALABARZON (Batangas, Rizal, Cavite, Laguna), MIMAROPA (Occ Mindoro) and Reg6 (Negros Occ, Aklan)
Affected regions/provinces: for fisheries: CAR (Ifugao, Benguet, Abra), Reg 2 (Cagayan), Reg 3 (Bataan, Bulacan, Pampanga) and CALABARZON (Cavite).
“The Regional Field Offices, in coordination with the concerned Local Government Units (LGUs) are still validating the effects of the two tropical storms,” the DA said.
