Durian to be sold by half the usual price for Kadayawan Festival
The price of Durian will drop to at least half its usual price during the Kadayawan festival, an official of the Davao City Fruit Council (DCFC) said.
Davaoeños or holiday makers who enjoys the world famous fruit can take advantage of this huge sale. From August 10 to September 25, the price range of Durian at the festival which will be held at SM Lanag will drop to P40 to P60 per kilo from its prevailing price of P150 per kilo said Candelario Miculob, president of the DCFC, adding that street vendors might even offer it for a much lower price.
The DCFC expects an abundant supply of Durian. “Because Mindanao is a vast area, we have more places to plant durian especially at the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, and Region XII, both are potential areas that can be developed given a very huge market,” Miculob said in a press release from the Philippine Information Agency.
According to Miculob, more Filipinos are now consuming Durian compared to previous years. Currently 25 percent of the whole population in the Philippines already consumes Durian unlike in the past which was only 15 percent.
