Forum gathers farmers, fisherfolk in Occidental Mindoro
Local leaders and officials of the Department of Agriculture (DA) recently conducted a forum with farmers and fisherfolk in Occidental Mindoro that were affected by the series of tropical storms.
The forum, held at the Provincial Training Center in Mamburao, was attended by hundreds of farmers and fishermen.
While Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Piñol said that rains and bad weather may have prevented him to attend the forum, the meeting was still successful, thanks to DA officials who represented him.
“DA officials led by Ronie F. Panoy, Regional Technical Director for Operations of DA-MIMAROPA represented me in the forum,” Piñol said.
Piñol said that he intends to push through with the trip to Mamburao next week and pass by Oriental Mindoro to turn over to a group of Mangyan tribesmen 15 heads of carabao, which he promised last year.
“Thank you to the DA officials for handling the event well in spite of my absence and to the local political leaders for helping us facilitate the forum,” he added.
Occidental Mindoro Representative Josephine Ramirez Sato, Vice Governor Peter de Jesus Alfaro, Board Member Mcking Legaspi, Mayors Lyn Tria of Mamburao and Jesus Valdez of Rizal were also present during the consultation.
Also present during the dialogue were Edgardo Payas, Provincial Officer of Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR); Celedonio P. Pereyra, Project Evaluation Officer III of Agricultural Credit Policy Council (ACPC); among others.
