Hot lumber caught in Palawan
Maritime police authorities’ intensified drive against illegal logging in southern Palawan has resulted in the recent confiscation of an estimated 550 board feet of suspected illegally cut lumber in a village in Bataraza town.
Police Superintendent Greg Togonon, chief of the 2nd Special Operations Unit-Maritime Group (SOU-MG), said Friday the pieces of hot lumber were confiscated by their personnel in Barangay Rio Tuba, Bataraza in southern Palawan.
He said the pieces of lumber were loaded to a Nissan coaster operated by Cyrus Castigador, 48, a resident of Bicol Village, Barangay Sandoval in Bataraza.
The modus was to use the coaster so the lumber will not be visible to environment authorities conducting regular security patrol and law enforcement operations in the area.
“We are strictly monitoring illegal logging, wildlife trafficking with other law enforcement authorities not only in Bataraza but also in other municipalities to make sure these unscrupulous people will stop destroying the forest,” he said. (PNA)
