NFA buys palay in Isabela at premium price
With the help of the Provincial Local Government of Isabela, state-run grains agency National Food Authority (NFA) was able to buy palay at premium price.
Through the funds under the province’s Bojie-Rodito Opportunities-Ayuda sa Presyo/Pantawid Pamasahe Program (BRO-ASAP/ PPP), which stands about P2.85 million, NFA didn’t have to shell out extra money to purchase palay in the province at P21.90 per kilogram (/kg) for clean and dry palay.
To recall, NFA is only allowed to buy local palay at P17.40/kg.
NFA Administrator Jason Aquino expressed his appreciation to the Provincial Government of Isabela.
“This is a great help to our poor farmers and to the agency in maintaining our food security mandate. We hope that Governor Dy will continue this program in the coming years as we also continue to work with them in serving our farmers,” Aquino said.
Isabela Province is one of the biggest rice producing provinces in the country but NFA cannot easily buy from farmers with its current buying price without additional premium.
The prevailing ex-farm price ranges from P19.00/kg to P19.50/kg for wet/fresh harvest.
