No swine flu outbreak in PH, assures BAI

There is no swine influenza outbreak in the country, the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) said in a statement issued Thursday.

The bureau said it has not received verified reports on such outbreak.

“Allegations circulating in social media and text messages about swine influenza in the country aren’t true,” said BAI veterinarian Anthony Bucad, one of the agency’s designated spokespersons on the issue.

Bucad also denied social media posts and text messages that say 40 pigs are dying daily due to swine influenza, a virus-triggered ailment.

Some social media posts and text messages likewise warned against eating pork in the meantime because of the supposed swine influenza.

The bureau instead urged the public to continue patronizing local pork and other meat products to support the industry.
Meat that passed National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) scrutiny is safe to eat, Bucad said.

The NMIS and BAI are agencies under the Department of Agriculture.

The department has agencies, laboratories, and linkages with swine raisers to ensure a sufficient and safe supply of pork in the country, BAI said. (PNA)
