Starbucks to ban plastic straws worldwide
Starbucks, the world’s largest and most popular coffee chain, is ditching the plastic straws across all its stores worldwide and it wants to make it happen in two years.
By 2020, the coffee chain said it should no longer provide its customers with plastics straws and will instead make available strawless lid.
This, according to the company, will elimate as much as 1 billion plastic straws a year.
The decision came after Seattle, the company’s hometown, banned the single-use plastics straws and utensils in all restaurants and bars.
An Associated Press report showed that Seattle, being an ‘eco-conscious city”, has always been the leader in the US when it comes to environmental efforts, “working to aggressively curb the amount of trash that goes into landfills”.
Right now, the city has 5,000 restaurants, including Seattle-based Starbucks outlets.
