BOC seizes smuggled sugar worth P40M from Thailand
Customs Commissioner Isidro Lapeña said the Bureau of Customs (BoC) seized a total of 22,500 sacks of sugar from Thailand, which were contained in 45 abandoned containers at the Port of Manila.
These cargoes, according to him, were shipped by Hup Lee Trading and consigned to Red Star Rising Corporation in separate dates from June to July.
Both companies have no clearance from Sugar Regulatory Administration.
Lapeña said a sugar cartel and some Customs officials could be behind the discovered shipments.
