DA creates task force to monitor El Niño
Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Piñol said the Department of Agriculture (DA) has already formed a task group to prepare for the worst of El Niño, which is expected to hit the country by year-end.
This, even if rains continuously pour in Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon, damaging vast agricultural areas.
The task group will specifically make plans to prepare farmers and fishermen for the climatic phenomenon which in 2015 to early 2016 ravaged crops and decreased fish catch.
“This is the reality in Agriculture and there is nothing much government can do except craft a contingency plan to ensure that people will not go hungry,” Piñol said.
