DA orders importation of 17,000 MT of galunggong
To arrest the rising prices of fish in the local market, the Department of Agriculture (DA) has ordered the importation of 17,000 metric tons (MT) of galunggong, which will be done by accredited fish importers.
“In order to ensure national food security taking into consideration public welfare and safety and in accordance with Section 61 of Republic Act No. 8550 or the Philippine Fisheries Code, as amended by Republic Act No. 10654, and Fisheries Administrative Order No. 195, series of 1999, the importation of Roundscad up to a minimum volume of 17,000 metric tons (MT) is hereby certified as necessary,” the DA said in an order.
The importation and unloading activities shall be strictly and jointly monitored by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) and Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA).
“This shall be effective from September 1 until the expiration thereof after the lapse of 90 days,” DA said.
