DENR partners with GTI for sustainable development of PH islands
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) said it has joined forces with Greening the Islands (GTI) to develop suitable solutions to problems facing the country’s island destinations such as Boracay.
Under the memorandum of understanding (MOU), the DENR and GTI agreed to identify the most suitable solutions for the islands, while respecting and enhancing its environmental features and social diversity.
With its collaboration with GTI, Environment Secretary Roy Cimatu said the DENR hopes to come up with “sustainable solutions” for application not only in Boracay but in all other islands in the country.
The two organizations will also organize a continuing and effective dialogue between government agencies and industries that are working to develop innovative solutions for the islands.
The DENR and GTI will also jointly develop and recommend suitable policies to favor investment; develop and implement bankable projects; work towards simplifying and accelerating regulations governing permitting processes; and analyze existing situations and monitor energy transition on islands.
The agreement is valid for five years or until 2023.
