DENR to work with miner to intensify rehab efforts on forests
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) is now working with Marcventures Mining and Development Corporation (MMDC) to intensify the implementation of multi-billion National Greening Project (NGP).
In a statement, MMDC said it has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the DENR and the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) for its participation in “Adopt an NGP Site” – a DENR project that pursues rehabilitation of open and degraded forest lands in the country.
MMDC will allot around P6.3 million for the project and this funding shall be managed by DENR based on a 3-year Work and Financial Plan that covers the production/procurement and planting of over 286,560 quality assorted seedlings and the 3-year maintenance and protection of a 200-hectare plantation.
This joint undertaking is the first of its kind, with MMDC being the first mining company to partner with DENR and MGB on the project.
