Malacañang lauds over higher banana exports from Jan to May
Malacañang celebrated the country’s higher banana exports from January to May as well as the news that the Philippines has remained a top banana exporter to Japan.
“We are pleased to announce that the Philippines recorded a growth of 7 percent in banana exports in Japan from January to May 2018 with a total of 679,967 metric tons (MT). This is higher compared to the 634,191 MT in 2017 of same period,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said.
He also highlighted that based on an information from the Pilipino Banana Growers and Exporters Association, the country continues to be the major source of Cavendish Bananas in Japan contributing 80 percent of the market share.
Meanwhile, Palace lauded the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) for distributing farm machine worth P17 million to 13 agrarian reform beneficiaries organizations in Ilocos Sur, benefiting as much as 300 farmers.
The farm equipment includes 13 farm tractors and 2 units combine harvesters.
