Matarinao Bay in Eastern Samar tested positive for red tide
Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) said that shellfishes collected at Matarinao Bay in Eastern Samar were tested positive for paralytic shellfish poison that is beyond the regulatory limit.
This was based on the latest laboratory results conducted by BFAR with the Local Government Units (LGUs).
“All types of shellfish and Acetes sp. or alamang gathered from this area are not safe for human consumption,” BFAR warned.
Moreover, Hinatuan and Lianga Bays in Surigao del Sur; coastal waters of Dauis and Tagbilaran City in Bohol; and Puerto Princesa and Honda Bays, Puerto Princesa City in Palawan are still positive for red tide toxin.
