NIA turns over irrigation projects in Basilan
The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) has turned over five completed irrigation projects to respective Irrigators Associations (IAs) in Isabela City, Province of Basilan.
The turned over projects, with an aggregate amount of P27 million, is expected to benefit a total of 117 farmers and their families.
These projects are the Mahayahay Communal Irrigation System in Maluso, Tabiawan Communal Irrigation System in Isabela City, Kalayan Communal Irrigation System in Lantawan, Semut Small Irrigation Project in Akbar, and Colonia Communal Irrigation System in Lamitan City.
The turnover happened just a few days after NIA Administrator Ricardo R. Visaya reminded regional officials of the agency to use their budget accountably and wisely.
In implementing new policies and reforms in the implementation of irrigation projects, honesty and integrity must be firmly observed, he said.
“I always advocate completion of irrigation projects on time, and even ahead if possible, because delayed projects mean depriving the beneficiaries of the benefits that they should be enjoying. Project implementation must be strictly monitored and inspected. It’s up for us to do what is right and what is legal”, said Visaya.
