Rice prices in Zamboanga seen stabilizing
The price of rice in Zamboanga, which had recently shot up to P70 per kilo amid almost zero supply, is now seen to stabilize as the government finally brought in newly milled rice in the province.
Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Piñol said that as of now, newly-milled rice from nearby Zamboanga Sibugay is still being sold at between P50 to P56 per kilo but Governor Wilter Palma said that the price is expected to go down in the next two weeks as harvesting goes into full swing.
In addition to the fresh harvests from Zamboanga Sibugay, farmers from Zamboanga del Sur and North Cotabato are also starting to mill their crops for the season.
Harvest in the rest of Mindanao will start by October until early December and early indications show that the production of rice will be good for this season, said Piñol.
