BFAR declares Lianga Bay red tide-free
Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) declared Lianga Bay in Surigao del Sur free from red tide, which means shellfish products collected from this area are now safe for consumption.
“Lianga Bay in Surigao del Sur is now free of toxic red tides,” BFAR said in its latest advisory.
However, it noted that shellfishes collected at Matarinao Bay in Eastern Samar; coastal waters of Dauis and Tagbilaran City in Bohol; and Puerto Princesa and Honda Bays, Puerta Princesa City in Palawan are still positive for paralytic shellfish poison that is beyond the regulatory limit.
“All types of shellfish and Acetes sp. or alamang gathered from the areas above are not safe for human consumption,” BFAR said.
