BOC seizes smuggled onions worth P16M
The Bureau of Customs (BOC) has stopped another attempt to inject and bring in supply of smuggled onions worth P16 million from China into the local markets.
Seized at the Manila International Container Port (MICP), the red onions were packed in eight shipping container vans and were misdeclared as fresh apples.
“The shipment was said to contain 2,500 cartons of fresh apples but upon inspection yesterday, was instead found to contain 20,000 cartons of red onions, estimated to be worth P16 million,” he said in a Manila Bulletin report.
The shipment was consigned to ASD Total Package Enterprises Inc., which already has previous smuggling record.
Earlier this month, six containers vans of ASD declared as apples were also seized by MICP for misdeclaration of P12 million worth of onions.
