Common myth about nutribun busted by Redditor
After the anniversary of the declaration of Martial Law in the Philippines, many netizens have taken to social media to air their sentiments about the controversial years in the country’s history.
There were many who raised the issue of the human rights abuses committed during the time of the Marcoses while there were those who celebrated what they called the “golden years” in Philippine history.
One of the projects under the Marcos administration which may be familiar to the older generation is the nutribun, a feeding project where students received free bread from the government to address the high malnutrition rate.
A Redditor recently posted an infographic about the nutribun and debunked the myth about the government project, saying that it was actually not initiated by the Marcoses, but rather, it was spearheaded by the USAID as part of its peace food aid program.
You could guess how the reactions went after this on the thread. (ANGEL ONG)
